Template Striker Ivan Toney from Game week 1
July 31, 2021
It’s always better to start with Template teams at the start of the season, so you don’t miss the Capou Bandwagons at the start of the season and keep paces with the rise of team values.
Due to high price of premiums most people are thinking to start with two mid-range strikers if not three. That makes Ivan Toney as one of the highest owned players. But I am not convinced he got those easy fixtures. Let’s forget the GW6-GW9. From GW 1-5 they are facing Arsenal, Villa, Palace, Brighton and Wolves which teams are defensively good as they play in a solid defensive system. So, 1 or 2 blanks from Toney and Rise of any Tom/Dick/Harry can cause huge shift of ownership. So duly @FPLetc provided the caution regarding price drop.
According to Aqib Javed “Adding Toney will decrease your team value for sure. They will face Arsenal at Friday night. So, if he can’t score against them his value might decrease within Saturday even before kicking off another match”.
But Jahid Hassan came with very solid counter logic that value is very important at initial stage no doubt. But getting a player at 6.5m who takes penalty (at VAR era) + free kicks! + center of all attacks meaning heavily BPS oriented as minimum CS will give the striker more BPS and that’s all for 6.5m. No one scores every week. NOT even Watkins with his tally. But in long run the value should equalise at 6.8m level even if Toney gets 10 goals + some assists. What if he scores against Arsenal like all strikers do? It’s Brentford’s home game. In front of their crowd even if Arsenal wins or draws Toney may come out with some points.
Aqib Javed still believes “looking at both scenarios, we might Keep Antonio and Watkins ahead of Toney to avoid another Pukki case.”
On the other hand, Shantonu Ahmed thought about budget distribution in adding Toney. He thinks as “we can’t (shouldn’t) spend more than 6.5m on our third forward option, because of our tight budget. At the same time, we can’t manage any regular starting forward if we lower our budget more (4.5m/5.5m). But if anyone want to play with 2 forwards, then we can only take them. Or else Tony should be our ultimate choice option. Trust me, He is Good.”
Because of uncertainty of starts (Pep and lengthy international duties) with lot of city assets; I have planned not to start with any city players (as I don’t know the role of Gundogan this season though Jesus is away). But I need a MUST City coverage in GW2. Again, I need someone from Spurs/Leicester in GW3 and Aubameyang in GW4.
So, to remove Toney will cause additional transfer to save team values. Just a soft reminder more than 33% (11 Goals) of his 32 goals came from penalties. Do you think PL Defenders will be as same quality of last season to provide Brentford such helps!! Remember fluid Leeds got only 4 penalties in whole last season.
Write something about Watford’s strikers. Deeney, King both played PL in the 19/20 season. Should I consider them?
So, who will be the replacement of tony at that prize range??
What about armstrong 6m Soton striker?
