Targeting The Best FPL Goalkeepers For The 2023/24 Season

Heading into the 2023/24 FPL season, it’s time for managers to consider their goalkeeper options. To simplify the choices, let’s categorize them into three price brackets: Premium (5.5m), Mid-Price (5.0m), and Budget (4.5m).

Premium FPL Goalkeepers (5.5m):

  • Ederson (Man City): With favorable opening fixtures against promoted sides, Ederson’s reliability and City’s defensive strength make him a solid choice.
  • Nick Pope (Newcastle): Despite his impressive performance last season, Pope faces challenging fixtures early on, making him a “one to watch” rather than a pick for GW1.

Mid-Price FPL Goalkeepers (5.0m):

  • Aaron Ramsdale (Arsenal): Ramsdale’s consistent playing time, impressive performances, and Arsenal’s favorable opening fixtures make him an appealing option.
  • David Raya (Brentford): If Raya stays at Brentford, his exceptional performance last season and favorable early fixtures make him a must-have. Keep an eye on transfer rumors though.

Budget FPL Goalkeepers (4.5m):

  • Sam Johnstone (Palace): Johnstone’s affordability and Palace’s favorable opening fixtures, along with their improved defensive record under Roy Hodgson, make him an interesting option.
  • Jordan Pickford (Everton): A solid and reliable choice, Pickford’s frequent starts, saves, and Everton’s decent early fixtures make him a safe bet.
  • Jason Steele (Brighton): Steele’s involvement in Brighton’s successful last season, combined with their favorable early fixtures, makes him a viable pick. Monitor preseason games for confirmation.
  • Wes Foderingham (Sheffield United): As a newly promoted differential, Foderingham’s potential for starts and impressive clean sheet record in the Championship make him an intriguing option.

Regarding personal preference, it’s too early to determine a definite goalkeeper choice. Considerations include monitoring Roberto De Zerbi’s selection during preseason and watching how David Moyes’ West Ham lineup develops. Fulham’s Bernd Leno and Wolves’ José Sá were omitted due to challenging early fixtures. Currently, top three choices are Ramsdale, Pickford, and a goalkeeper from Brighton or Brentford based on preseason and transfer activity.
