Best Differential Midfielders (Differential Diamonds)
July 15, 2022
Riyad Mahrez: £8m priced Riyad Mahrez is a player who is ignored by a lot of managers. In this season we can expect him to start lot more matches in League than last season as Jesus & Sterling left the club. So, I am not seeing that much competition in his right-wing position. His xA/90 & xG/90 was very impressive in last season. Man City have some excellent fixture to start the new season & Mahrez can be a explosive differential to start with.
Gabriel Martinelli: Gabriel Martinelli at £8m can be a definite bargain in this season as ended the season really strongly. The Gunners are starting the season with very good fixture facing two promoted teams in their first four fixtures. His xG/90 was 7th among all midfielders. He has the responsibility of some of the set pieces as well. Its expected that he will start regularly on wing this season over other players and his potential has increased more after signing Gabriel Jesus.
Dejan Kulusevski: I think Dejan Kulusevski will start more matches in the PL than Richarlison as still fits on the RW very well and is the more creative player. Kulusevski finished last season with 5 goals + 9 assists & that’s a total 14 goal contribution in 2022, only four players had more goal contribution in 2022 than him. After being priced £12m, Son Heung-min is out of reach to a lot of FPL mangers in that case this Swedish differential diamond can be a good option to cover up Spurs asset.
James Maddison: Maddison played a very advance role for Foxes in the last part of season 21/22. It is expected that Brendan Rodgers won’t rotate his XI that much like last season as they are not any European Competition in this season. Among the Midfielders priced under £10m he was in top for shots on target (34, same as Bowen) & third for big chances created (11). So, this no.10 can be very good shout at £8m.
Mason Mount: Mason Mount at £8m should be in radar as well to start this new season. He has been a key player under Thomas Tuchel & had his best season last year. Mount was in third position for total shots (76) & fourth for big chances created (10) among the Midfielders priced under £10m. He is one of the set piece takers of the team that increases his assist potential.
Marcus Rashford: Marcus Rashford has got a big price drop in this FPL season as he was kind of flop last season. If Rashford can get some good games in pre-season under the new management of Erik ten Hag, he has a good chance to be in Man UTD XI. Another thing to consider is there are some news coming out that Ronaldo wants to leave Man UTD and he is not in this ongoing pre-season as well. So, if Ronaldo leaves in this summer window, it can open some more space for Rashford to be starting XI as he can play as forward. As he is priced only £6.5m can deliver the highest points per million if he can execute these chances properly.
